A Sincere Death

EXPERIMENTAL / 2 MINUTES / 2021

Documentary filmmaker Moses Parlindungan Ompusunggu captures the melancholy of observing the second Holy Week in the pandemic era in this short experimental film titled “A Sincere Death.” In this film, Moses, a former The Jakarta Post journalist, offers a deep reflection on dying and salvation through a series of still photos synchronized with a touching composition from Frederic Chopin. Evocative and at times eerie, the carefully framed photos show statues at a seemingly near-decaying Christian sculpture workshop in Serpong, Banten.
